I suspect that it is simply a manifestation of the righteous might mentality held by most Americans. If tens of thousands of innocents die while the country is reduced to rubble it is always done always with unquestionably noble intentions or to gift their unruly masses a better way of life. We have , in fact...a dictator and this dictator is commander in chief of a vast security and military edifice. this insures that the Congress remains substantially reduced from Constitutional intentions. There has been, in effect, a counter-revolution and we rely upon the quality of the occupant to determine whether or not this is a bad thing. Something about the last several years leads me to believe it is. As January 20 gets closer the number of leftists who will even pretend to agree will shrink down to nearly zero. I hope they do some warmup exercises first.
